Eastleigh is situated between Winchester and Southampton in Hampshire. It was the birth place of many mighty Southern steam locomotives and the scene of the Spitfire’s inaugural flight. Eastleigh’s Market Street was made famous by Benny Hill, comedian and one-time milkman of Eastleigh, in his 1971 song Ernie, The Fastest Milkman In The West!

Other famous Eastleigh residents have included people as diverse as Chrystabel Leighton-Porter, the model behind World War 2 cartoon character Jane, Vince Hawkins, British Middle Weight boxing champion 1946 to 1948, Colonel Sir Arthur Edwin Young, KBE, CMG, CVO, KPM Commissioner of the City of London Police, 1950 to 1971, and current Radio 1 DJ/presenter Scott Mills. Actor Colin Firth attended 6th Form College here.

In 2006 Eastleigh was deemed to be the 9th best place in Britain to live.
