Here is a really cool song about God which reminds us that God is great and that we should remember that He is part of our daily lives, if we believe in Him or not.
Here are the words Joan Osborne sings:
What if God Was One of Us?
If God had a name, what would it be?
And would you call it to His face
If you were faced with Him in all His glory?
What would you ask if you had just one question?
And yeah, yeah, God is great.
Yeah, yeah, God is good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
What if God was one of us,
Just a slob like one of us,
Just a stranger on the bus trying to make his way home?
If God had a face, what would it look like?
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints
and all the prophets?
And yeah, yeah, God is great.
Yeah, yeah, God is good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
What if God was one of us,
Just a slob like one of us,
Just a stranger on the bus trying to make his way home?
Just trying to make his way home, back up to heaven all alone.
Nobody calling on the phone,
‘cept for the Pope maybe in Rome.
Yeah, yeah, God is great.
Yeah, yeah, God is good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
What if God was one of us,
Just a slob like one of us,
Just a stranger on the bus trying to make his way home?
Like a holy rolling stone?
Back up to heaven all alone, just trying to make his way home.
Nobody calling on the phone,
‘cept for the Pope maybe in Rome.
Jesus taught us to look after others, even ‘slobs’, and if we do so it is like looking after God Himself, who did become ‘one of us’ when Jesus (who is God) was born as a baby. Those who do that as part of their Christian life will get a reward in heaven. He said:
“Then the King [Jesus] will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we do those things?’
“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ “
